ECAL has literally transformed its business by participating in last year’s Big Pitch, helping it make the transition from ambitious but under-resourced startup into becoming a leading global player in the emerging area of ‘right-time communications’.

Coming equal first in the competition provided ECAL with a ‘shot in the arm’ on several fronts - capital, credibility and brand exposure.

ECAL founder Patrick Barrett says he entered The Big Pitch with the goal of raising expansion capital. He ticked this box when ECAL secured $2 million funding from Oxygen Ventures post event.

The injection of funds has allowed ECAL to expand its two-man team to 20 people across three different cities - Melbourne, Manila and New York.

ECAL continues to focus on further building out its product infrastructure and bringing to market new features, particularly around mobile.

Importantly, the business is also building on its traditional customer base in sports and entertainment, moving into new vertical markets including corporate (banking and finance), education and retail.

“We’ll continue to expand geographically,” Patrick says, reaching further into the Americas plus entering European and Asian markets as well.
