“Winning The Big Pitch has allowed us to expand into new markets, build our team and continue to make our product the world’s best in what it does.”
ECAL has literally transformed its business by participating in last year’s Big Pitch, helping it make the transition from ambitious but under-resourced startup into becoming a leading global player in the emerging area of ‘right-time communications’.
Coming equal first in the competition provided ECAL with a ‘shot in the arm’ on several fronts - capital, credibility and brand exposure.
ECAL founder Patrick Barrett says he entered The Big Pitch with the goal of raising expansion capital. He ticked this box when ECAL secured $2 million funding from Oxygen Ventures post event.
The injection of funds has allowed ECAL to expand its two-man team to 20 people across three different cities - Melbourne, Manila and New York.
ECAL continues to focus on further building out its product infrastructure and bringing to market new features, particularly around mobile.
Importantly, the business is also building on its traditional customer base in sports and entertainment, moving into new vertical markets including corporate (banking and finance), education and retail.
“We’ll continue to expand geographically,” Patrick says, reaching further into the Americas plus entering European and Asian markets as well.
Who are ECAL?
eCal makes it easy for consumers to stay up to date with the brands they love. It’s an original solution to a simple, but frustrating marketing problem. With busy schedules and seemingly endless inboxes, marketing emails are often discarded by time-poor, but affluent consumers. Founder Patrick Barrett recognised that, and wants to transform the way brands reach their most prized customers.
By integrating event and location information into ever-present calendars, eCal challenges the way modern, digital-savvy consumers interact with the brands that matter to them. It’s a smart marketing channel that keeps businesses and brands front-of-mind, even for the busiest of customers. It’s exactly this sort of thinking that brought The Big Pitch to life, with eCal spotting a problem and solving it with a simple, but brilliant idea. Instead of reinventing the wheel, they just looked at the problem in a different way. Cloud based, mobile compatible and simple to use, eCal already counts major American sports franchises like Boston Celtics, MLS and the New England Patriots as customers. With extraordinary engagement rates and simple integration into client marketing efforts, they’re offering a service that’s unique, attractive and insightful.
